LEGOLAND School Challenge 2026 introduces the “Ultimate Theme Park Ride” challenge, a high-stakes speed build finale and global grand prizes.

SINGAPORE,13 March 2026– Asia’s biggest LEGO® school competition returns for its fifth edition as LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort launches the LEGOLAND School Challenge 2026, bringing together young creators from across the region to celebrate creativity, collaboration and innovation through the power of play.

Since its inception in 2022, the Challenge has grown from a local initiative into a regional platform, attracting hundreds of submissions from schools across Asia. Organized in partnership with Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, the 2026 edition aims to inspire the next generation of innovators through hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) learning, grounded in the LEGO philosophy of learning through play.

New 2026 Challenge: The Ultimate Theme Park Ride

This year, student teams of three to four participants across three categories – Junior (7–9 years), Primary (10–12 years), and Secondary (13–17 years) – are tasked with designing their most imaginative theme park attraction.

Whether magical, futuristic, space-themed or underwater, each build should include at least one clearly defined ride vehicle or carriage. Teams can also earn additional points by incorporating a moving element, either manual or motorised, and are encouraged to use creative displays or dioramas to showcase their theme park ride.

The final model should represent the complete ride experience, showcasing creativity, functionality, and build quality. Teams must also tell a clear and exciting story behind their concept, accompanied by a 50 to 100-word description in English explaining their LEGO creation.

"The LEGOLAND School Challenge has evolved into more than a competition – it is a regional platform that empowers young minds to think boldly, collaborate across cultures, and turn imagination into innovation," said Cs Lim, Vice President of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort.

"By launching this year’s Challenge in Singapore, we are reinforcing our commitment to building stronger regional participation and giving students across Asia the opportunity to showcase their creativity on an international stage. Via learning-through-play, we are nurturing future-ready skills that extend far beyond the classroom.”

Introducing the LEGOLAND School Challenge’s First Judge from Singapore

In a move to strengthen regional representation, the 2026 judging panel welcomes its first-ever Singaporean judge, Jeffrey Kong.

A renowned LEGO artist who began building in his early thirties as a creative outlet, Kong has earned international recognition through his commissioned works and global building competitions. His work has been featured across television, radio, and print media, and his expertise will bring valuable insight to the judging process as he continues to champion the joy of building.

The Grand Finale: More Speed, Higher Stakes

The 2026 Challenge introduces several enhancements designed to push students’ creativity and problem-solving even further:

The “Make or Break” Speed Build: For the first time, the Live Speed Build Finale will account for 30% of the total score, up from 20% in previous years, making it a critical factor in determining the winners.

Extended Build Time: Finalists will now have one hour (up from 45 minutes). The theme, revealed on the event day, may differ from the main competition theme, challenging teams to think quickly and adapt creatively on the spot.

Parents & Teachers Challenge: A new 15-minute fun build round invites teachers and parents to showcase their creativity alongside the student teams.

Prizes Worth Building For

Primary and Secondary Category champions will embark on an incredible trip to LEGOLAND Shanghai. Meanwhile, the Junior Category champions will win a trip to LEGOLAND Malaysia.

The top five teams in each category will also be invited to the Grand Finale at LEGOLAND Malaysia, where they will enjoy a three-day, two-night stay at the LEGOLAND Hotel, compete live during the finale event, and have their final builds showcased to park guests through the end of 2026.

All category champions will receive a LEGOLAND Malaysia Annual Pass, an iconic LEGO trophy, LEGO sets for each team member, and a Certificate of Achievement.
